The Canadian Association of Parliamentarians on Population and Development believes the optimum conditions for population development must include healthy conditions under which individuals in society can sustain life and strive towards their attainable goals regardless of geographic location.
Such as the right to safe drinking water, basic sanitation, pre- and post- natal health care; access to early learning and childcare programs, primary and high school education; equitable access to basic health care.
These also include the rights of women to be free from all forms of violence and abuse and the right to choose, as defined by the UN Charter and other international instruments, that Women's Rights are Human Rights. Finally access to skills training opportunities must be available regardless of gender, age, sexual orientation, race, language or religion.
As representatives of the Canadian people, Parliamentarians are given the unique opportunity to raise the national awareness of population and development issues and to influence and shape policy decisions consistent with commitments made at international conferences and in Canadian Foreign Policy. Members of CAPPD will do everything in their power to uphold these commitments.
