HOME - Welcome to CAPPD.

The Canadian Association of Parliamentarians on Population and Development (CAPPD) was created in 1997 by Members of Parliament and Senators concerned about the issue. This is a non-partisan association with representation from all political parties in the House of Commons and the Senate.

CAPPD's task is to sensitize legislators, policy makers and the Canadian public on the importance of population, reproductive health and sustainable development issues such as child health, nutrition, education, maternal morbidity and mortality, international migration and sanitation. This is as a result of the commitments made by World Parliamentarians (including Canada) in Cairo in 1994 and in New York in 2000 to implement a Programme of Action to improve by 2015 women's reproductive health and choice and drastically reduce maternal deaths in developing countries. The eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) have further strengthened past declarations.
