The year 2010 marks the critical juncture leading up to the Final Countdown to 2015 for World Governments in meeting their commitments to the Programme of Action on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
At the Global Parliamentarians’ Summit organized by the Canadian Association of Parliamentarians on Population and Development (CAPPD) on June 10th and 11th 2010, Parliamentarians will focus on three Millennium Development Goals:
MDG 5: improving maternal and reproductive health
MDG 1: reducing extreme poverty and hunger,
MDG 6: eradicating HIV/Aids and other diseases such as malaria and tuberculosis.
Parliamentarians will also discuss their role in holding their own Governments accountable to the commitments they made and the importance of a democratic system in women’s health. We have declared that health is a human right and we know its impact on gender justice.
The Parliamentarians’ Summit will draft a report containing all deliberations and resolutions of the Summit. The report will be an “Appeal”, to be presented to the Prime Minister of Canada, The Right Honourable Stephen Harper, as host of the 2010 G8 and G20 Heads of States Summits.
